I think the hardest part of being a colorist is correcting other peoples mistakes. You never know what is going on underneath a clients current hair color. You need to ask questions about her hair history.
Are there old highlights underneath her present brown hair color?
When was your last color?
What did they do?
After you have a good idea of what has happened you can start preparing how to correct this poor girl’s hair. It’s truly a science to correct a color problem. It may take several visits to achieve her desired color. I always proceed with caution. Sometimes it’s possible to hit the bulls eye in one sitting. That’s what happened last week. Here is a client who wanted platinum blonde but came into the salon with gold roots, yellow mid-shaft and some chewed up ends.
