Balayage – The new sun kissed look
Balayage is a French word meaning to sweep or to paint. It allows for a sun-kissed natural looking hair color – similar to what nature gives us as children – with softer, less noticeable regrowth lines. The principal idea being less is more when creating soft, natural looks.
As a colorist I know there are many ways to skin a cat. Balayage can be done in a variety of ways. I am not a fan of colorists who just hand paint bleach on natural hair. It looks sloppy and usually ends up looking dry and over-processed. When I perform this service I use special balayage foam foils so the color does not bleed onto the hair you want to keep natural. Toning the subtle highlights is a must. You really want your balyage to look sun kissed and natural. This is the perfect service for clients who can’t get to the salon very often. They grow out beautifully and touch ups are a breeze.
